VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet approved the purchase of more than 1,300 acres adjacent to the Deep Creek Preserve that has been identified by the Volusia County Council as a high priority to be acquired, the county announced Thursday.

The land, owned by M.L. Carter Services, Inc., and known as the Carter Quail Ranch, will expand the preserve to 9,395 acres and lies within the Volusia Conservation Corridor.

Thousands of residents living up and down the Narcoossee corridor and in Sunbridge have their first new grocery store, as the Publix-anchored Cornerstone at Narcoossee opened on Dec. 12.

Daryl Carter and Emily Brown with Maury L. Carter & Associates led the development of the project, which was first announced in 2019.

“We partnered closely with Crossman & Company, as the leasing agent, and M.E. Construction, Inc. as the general contractor, to bring this new store to life,” Carter said.
